Hi, I've just had my two boys neutered. They appear to be doing well, they're eating. I haven't seen them drink yet but I have been syringing water into their mouths and they have taken it well.

I was just wondering how long we need to leave it before they can put back with their female cage mates?

They need to stay away from females for six weeks after neuter day.

When you say put back with - I’m assuming they were not in the same cage as each female before they were neutered?

Make sure you carry out the bonding in neutral territory for each pair.

The little surprise baby born in October 2011 in my avatar picture on the left is the unplanned legacy of an over 5 weeks post-op boar (not one of mine, I hasten to add). It can really happen as late as that.
We follow RSPCA practice and recommend a 6 weeks post op wait on this forum. While we were dealing regularly with babies from 4 weeks post-op boars on this forum before we switched to a 6 weeks recommendation in the wake of Tegan's birth, there have never been any surprises nor have there been any at the RSPCA in the intervening decade on the 6 weeks recommendation.

I have just sat out the 6 weeks wait with two baby boys born here to a pregnant adopted sow myself; they were neutered at the earliest possible age at the start of March and have been finally bonded with sows two weeks ago.

I’m so pleased they have recovered well from the surgery. As said above they need to wait 6 weeks from the day of surgery.

So just to clarify are you making two herds with one male piggy in each one? And were the two males in with the females before the surgery?

Yes I will be making two separate herds. Harvey was with Ahsoka previously but has been split from her to avoid babies. Atreus, the other male guinea pig has sadly been on his own for a while as he didn't get on with Harvey. Atreus will be paired with Azrael once the six weeks is up. I'm hoping the bonding process goes well for both of them.

Yes and absolutely, I'm hoping the bonding process goes smoothly.

If Harvey has already lived with Ahsoka before he was neutered, then is she on 10 weeks pregnancy watch?

Good luck with the bondings. I hope it goes smoothly. Pictures of your gorgeous piggies would be very welcome as we LOVE to drool over them. Lol
