I have 2 Swiss boars age 4 months . The smaller boy has started to continually mount the larger brother . He sometimes even mounts him over his face . I know it must be a dominance thing but I'm worried about it annoying the one who always gets mounted . I also have another set of 2 boars who live in another cage and they have never done this and they are 5 1/2 years old . Does this mounting settle down or can it become an aggressive problem . Please give me any advice ! Thanks all !

This is perfectly normal dominance behaviour. Your young boys are just comming into there "teenage years" they need to establish who is boss.

It looks awfull to us, but its perfectly normal for them. Unless one piggy is being bullied, ie not aloud to eat, or sleep etc or blood has been draw it is best to wait for them to settle by themselves.

You can ease this troubled time by giving them two of everything (food bowls, water bottles, hay racks, toys, hideys *its a good idea to give them hideys with atleast two exits, shoe boxes will do fine*)

And ofcourse make sure they have atleast the recomended minimum space, if not more. :)

Thanks . They have a huge indoor cage with plenty space to run around and 2 hidey holes and 2 food bowls etc anyway . Hopefully no fights will ever break out ! Popcorning frenzy usually comes along with the mounting hopefully they will soon work out who is boss and that will be that ! :{

sounds perfectly normal :) obviously keep an eye out and check them for bites when you handle them, but mainly just give them a little time.

Two of my boys do this all the time - in fact it's like a game to them as both chase and mount one another - sometimes it can look very intense, but it's normally followed up with them both popcorning (obviously a game as opposed to any dominance) My two are like children, they get excited over the slightest thing - mounting one another is definitely part of their daily routine - unlike my other 8 pigs - there is no squealing or wheeking under protest when they are chasing/mounting one another - so i take it they are very happy doing what they do... ;)

Your boys are just hitting their 'teenage' months and so their hormones will be raging - just keep an eye on them - if they are popcorning afterwards they are obviously happy to 'play along' and so i wouldn't be worried.....

My piggies used to do this all the time, but the phase seems to have passed over, it was kind of embarrassing when i would be showing my pigs to someone and they'd be mounting each other in the corner ...
If your ever worried, heres a sticky that tells you the difference from between normal dominance and the sort where it's time to separate them!
