Hey guys
I have just gotten back to india to come see my sow who had hair loss around her back.
I just picked up my boar to cuddle him for the first time in a year and noticed he had a really swollen nipple and a big lump behind it. He is eating well and not loosing any weight currently weighing 1090 grams. I squeezed it and a little brownish water like a little tiny drop came out. He is not in any pain when i squeezed it. My mum and dad has been really sick so they couldn't pick my guinea pigs for past 2 weeks. I have no guinea pig or exotic pets vet anywhere around here. Please help me any kind of information can help.

Hi

HUGS

I am really sorry. What your boy has is a mammry tumour; they can be both benign or malign. The problem with them is that if they are not removed they will keep on growing to enormous size; so big that a piggy is no longer able to stand on all four legs. :(

I am very sorry that you are having such a tough time with yet more bad news.

I am very sorry but I agree with Wiebke’s diagnosis that your boy has a mammary tumour. The only treatment is to have it removed from a vet

I am very sorry it’s all happening at once for you 😞 x

Hey Wiebke,
I have no vet here who would do his surgery or is capable to be working with guinea pigs. I will lose him in surgery.
I don't know what to do

I am so sorry, what an awful homecoming for you, hope your parents are better soon. My Bill had a mammary tumour behind his nipple removed. Simon, the vet also found another one that I hadn’t noticed, both were very small but he didn’t delay in removing them. Bill recovered very quickly with no further issues.

Good luck I hope you can find a skilled vet to remove the lump 🤞

i found one small animal vet near me and these are the reviews. I don't think i have any other option than just to keep my sweet boar comfortable till he is and go with it. There is no vets who can perform surgeries on guinea pigs here only cats and dogs.IMG_4978.webpIMG_4977.webpIMG_4976.webp

So sorry, keep looking around and be prepared to travel if you can find a reputable vet 🤞

I’m so sorry you are in this impossible position 😟

We should be more grateful about the services we have in the UK, US and Europe.

BIG HUGS

I am very sorry. The only other option is euthanasia once the lump is so large that it is really impacting on his quality of life.

However, mammary lumps are not the fastest growing so that is not a decision you would have to make for a goodly while. You also have more time to look for other vets.
