Hi everyone!

I am having issues with my adopted husboar Grizzly and his eye. He has always had big, watery, dopey eyes since we got him that sometimes produce a milky substance but the vet said that was normal.

However, I noticed on Thursday that he eye looked very soar in the corner so examined him and could not see anything in there so cleaned it out and he was fine-eyes were open etc. Friday morning it still looked a bit soar but was fine and it wasn’t until Friday afternoon he couldn’t really open his eye.

We took him to the vets and the vet said it looks like the start of an infection but could not tell exactly what but gave us the bog standard eye drops and said to do it until Monday so I did. I didn’t do any this morning as the vet said until Monday but I came home from work and although his eye was a little red there was green mucus. He is fine in himself and no change in his eating habits. His eyes are wide open just a little red in the corner so I decided to give him more medication and extend it until Friday as the packaging does say 7 days.

I have also noticed the one of the girls always cleans his eye for him-I don’t know if that means anything? In a weird way that does help as his eye is much less soar lol.

I have inserted some pictures after vets and now. The picture on the left was after the vets and on the right this evening. You probably can’t really tell as it doesn’t like that bad it’s just in the corner of his eye it looks quite soar but it never seems to bother him.

I'm going to give the medication until Friday to see if that helps at all. Any ideas on what it could be?

I would get him seen again I think. Eyes are classed as an emergency and remember they can be seen by a general vet as well. What eye drops were you given?

I would definitely keep going with the eye drops you were prescribed, but also go back to the vets.
We also have a piggy with ongoing eye issues that arent helped by her loving husboar licking off the eyedrops and drooling hay bits and chewed up poops in her eye all the time!
A couple of things that may help are removing your sore eye piggy to a pet carrier or box for half an hour after the drops are given to make sure they arent licked off, also additional eye lubricant drops can be prescribed to pop in at a different time of day to keep the eye comfortable and stop any scratching at it that can introduce further infection... at which point food bribes can be given to eye licking companion to distract them from the tasty eye gunk!
Do keep going back to the vets to check but there really arent any easy answers to a companion who likes to "help" manage infected eye issues...

They are called isanthal. He is definitely herself and does not seem bothered at all. I will probably give them a call later

Thank you! He is definitely himself and is not bothered by it all all. He is just having white gunk now and again. I extended the medication to today which is the last day and will probably call them too
