Hi, I think I've found boar glue on one of our two male piggies today also, for the first time. I'm sure it wasn't there when I put them in their run at 9:30 but was present about 10:30 when I checked on them. It is a thick strand of solid white gunk, similar to a glue stick, that doesn't smell and is very entangled in his hair a little above and to the left of his scent gland. It is about 2cm long and starts close to or on his skin. There's no sign of an injury or illness for this to be produced from his skin, no evidence of soreness, except when hairs get pulled during examination, and he seems perfectly fine. I've tried washing it, which limited success, and have cut some of it off. Does that sound like boar glue?

Here's a photo -

This does look like boar glue. It is true to its name - glue - it wont wash off unless you happen to try to wash it off the moment you see it produced. You can either cut it off but only as long as it doesnt pull the skin, or leave it to fall off on its own in time. If it is causing any skin issue - if it is pulling tight and causing discomfort and you cannot cut it out yourself, then please see a vet to have it removed.

Thank you for your advice. I've cut off most of it, but left a knob of it close to the skin where it will be too difficult and sore for our piggie to cut. At least there is only a small amount left now rather than a large trail of it. I'm glad to say it isn't yet causing any skin irritation.

I'm dealing with this right now. I have a 5-month little brat who has managed to 'boar glue' his own belly for the third time now. This time it looks like it's pretty uncomfortable, I can see some skin being pulled. There's no way I can cut it out, it's completely stuck. Last time, he removed it after a few days by barbing a huge chunk of fur, but hurt himself a little bit in the process - a small cut. What now? Can a vet remove this? And is there any tutorial to teach this brat hot to not spray himself? :))

One possible solution would be to shave the area with a pair of small pet clippers.
Thankfully most of the time it won't bother them and will grow out or fall off after a while so it's not normally a problem.
