I have a 4 and a 1/2 year old boar who recently had a 2-3cm clump of hair/hay/mucus in his anal sack, which I removed.
Today I did another check to make sure there was nothing going on, gently seeing if there was anything in the sack and I went a bit further than I should have, I will admit.
But I noticed he looked a bit messy, perhaps a bit of hay and just some build up of mucus and poop (not a clump or anything, it was just messy in general).

I am wondering if cleaning this would be advisable. Off the top of my head I would think not, as it is quite deep in and to get to such I would need tweezers to gently pull out the hay etc., but I am worried this mess will cause issues for him either now or in the future?
If he is really stinky every now and again I will use a q-tip with warm water to go around the outside and just on the inside, but never further than that.

I would say the issue is a couple cm in.
I don’t/wouldn’t mess with his penis at all, but I am wondering if the anal sack is different.

Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

I expect you have seen the above but linked it just in case you haven't. I've had boars that need the sack cleaning occasionally and some that never need touching. If it's just a bit I wouldn't clean it, keep an eye on it to make sure i doesn't build up too much though. I feel the more you clean that area the more it needs cleaning. I do gently pull out any stuck hay as I'm as that must feel uncomfortable.
I did have on elderly arthritic boar that needed cleaning weekly but that was because he couldn't bend back to sort himself out.

Thanks! If you saw a piece of hay somewhat deep in his sack would you also go for that, I just worry that the hay of all things is poky or anything.
I just do not feel 100% sure of the line and when I would be crossing it.

I pull hay out, very gently and slowly! To be honest I don't think about a line as such. Every circumstance and piggy is different. I guess having had boars for so many years instinct just clicks in.
