Both boys were in their divided run as they have been using uneventfully for months. I went inside to get a drink, went back outside and found Hugo on Wilbur’s side of the run. Both at opposite ends of the 6 foot span, teeth chattering, looking shell shocked.
Injuries to both. Blood on both. I can see two bite marks on Hugo but can’t see through Wilbur’s floof, can only see drips of blood pooling at the end is his fur.
Quite how Hugo has managed to break through I don’t know, but he has.

Emergency vet visit in half an hour.
And then to somehow make their enclosures impenetrable - metal grids apparently dont deter him! (I think he’s probably hiding a full tool kit somewhere!)

Gosh, I’m so shaken up

Oh no what a shock. I wonder what made him do that? I hope the injuries are minor. Good luck at the vets. ❤️

BIG HUGS

An incident like this can really leave you shaking. Hostile cage invasions can end up with some serious bites, even between neutered boars, as I have learned to my own sorrow when Bedo managed to invade Maelog's pen one early Sunday morning and both ended up with a nice set of abscessing bites. Maelog had a history of fear-aggressively overreacting when challenged anyway. :(
All the best at the vets. I sincerely hope that the wounds are not serious and more superficial than deep.

Cable-tie all grids around the cage and put up a secured lid in the divider area so the cannot jump over. An opaque divider for the next few days may be best, anyway.

I would consider two separate cages, if that is possible, or having each boy neutered and living with a sow for the longer term.

Oh no! Hope you and the piggies are ok. Hope the vet check up goes well

I’ve had one boar like that. As Wiebke says, cable ties and lids did the trick!

Oh my goodness. I’m so very sorry. Hope all goes ok at the vets.

So sorry. Hopefully they will be minor injuries and they’re both okay. I’m sure they shocked themselves almost as much as you.

I know their actual cages in the shed are secure but another plan for the run is clearly needed (the dividing grids were cable tied, but I have found a broken one - I wonder if Hugo has been working on it without me knowing). I’ll probably just end up buying another run so I can be sure nothing like this can happen again. There’s already two guinea pig runs on the lawn (one for Dexter and Popcorn as a pair, and the other one was divided for Wilbur and Hugo), plus the 100sq ft rabbit enclosure, so what’s one more!

Both boys have bite wounds but fortunately they are not serious. They are, however, both getting some baytril for a few days to be sure. Wilbur is also sporting a rather fetching shaved patch to be able to see his wounds through his fluff.

Relieved to hear the bites aren’t serious but good to hear they’ve both got Baytril to be on the safe side. What a shocking day you’ve had.

Sorry to hear your boars have got into a fight. Its a shock, especially seeing you had separate runs.ive seen a fair few boar fights, they can be vicious. I had one pair of boars knock the other ones teeth out.
I hope the wounds heal well.Find a solution for run time.🤗

Omg that’s awful for you
So pleased to hear that the bites are not serious

I have a home & roost outdoor Guinea pig run that’s hardly been used and is vgc - I moved to a house with a gravel garden
You are welcome to have it for free - I live about an hour away (Sudbury)

Glad they’re both okay. I’m sure you will sort the run thing out, you’re more than resourceful.
