Sorry i've not posted for a while but I'm having a nightmare bonding my boars, they get on okay in the play pen to the extent where they just lay down and go to sleep so i've totally disinfected the cage today and put them in together, they were a bit lively to start with but then ended up both in one of the shelters curled up next to one another for an hour. However when they woke up it was a different matter they were chasing and jumping at one another and teeth chattering constantly..... it got quite heated and i was scared of them fighting so ended up separating them but now all i can hear is them chewing the bars between their cages to get to one another...... i don't know what to do now, i don't want them to hurt each other.

Hi, you have my sympathies, this occasionally breaks out with my bonded pair.

I just separate them sometimes when they get on each other's wick, and usually a few hours time out seems to do the trick.

There is a sticky which may help here if you haven't already seen it: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28949
It may offer a suggestion or two about what the possible causes could be?

Thanks :)

I'm going to put them back in together in a minute now they've had a bit of time out, see what happens, think i'll end up sleeping in the room with them so i can keep an eye on them...... could be a long night! lol

Oh, it's soooo stressful, isn't it! We constantly fuss when this happens with ours, but I think it's like being a married couple or flatmates living in a studio flat constantly - you are bound to get under each other's feet sometimes and rows flare up etc, it's not uncommon. Hopefully your pair just needs a wee bit of time apart now and again :)

Hopefully! I sometimes think my husband and me fuss and stress far too much about the piggies! lol We have 4 in total, two we adopted together so are fine and live in the same cage although they have the occasional teeth chatter and then we have the two that i'm trying to bond, one was bonded originally but his friend died and the other has always lived alone but for the past few months they've lived next to one another so they can "talk" through the bars and had play time together in the play pen. Thats why i hoped they'd be okay .... fingers crossed

Good luck :) It's very rewarding, but very stressful!

We're the single boys club here, all our 8 are boys yet some have been so damaged in the past they won't ever take another pig. We've only got one bonded pair out of the lot! Shame really, we've tried bonding almost all the others with each other at one point but not one will have it - they are very stubborn creatures, our boypigs!

But we adore them all the same!

Good luck, hope you are successful :)
