I find it so annoying that online people will say that you should give very little of certain fruits to Guinea pigs.
I find this very annoying. For one places will often say that you can over feed a Guinea pig. Like how is that even possible, it seems like Guinea pigs control how much they eat pretty good. Considering I leave out hay and pellets for them all day long. And every afternoon I will go and hand my Guinea pigs a tray of fruit. So all in all the moral of this thread is to not over worry about how much food you give your Guinea pigs. But of course don’t go overboard and feed them stuff that might actually get them sick.

I’m confused as to why you would find correct advice ‘annoying’?

Piggies can be over fed on pellets, veg and fruit. All of which need to be limited and not left with them all day.
The only thing they cannot be over fed with is hay, which should be provided in unlimited quantities.

There are genuine health reasons why piggies should not be fed fruit in quantity:

Too much fruit absolutely can make them sick - it’s too much sugar which will cause dysbiosis (overgrowth of the wrong kind of gut bacteria), obesity, and too much acidic fruit can also lead to cheilitis (a lip infection which can kill them). It isn’t something they would have naturally, and actually does not need to be in their diet at all.

Limited to no fruit is the advice we are always are going to provide - fruit, if given, should only be in very small amounts (ie one thin slice of apple once a week) as a treat, and given no more that once a week.

Over feeding pellets can also cause several health problems (one of which being the exceptionally high levels of calcium which can lead to bladder stones) and shouldn’t be left available to them all day. One tablespoon per pig per day is enough.

Please read our guide on appropriate diet.

Consult a vet on this instead of blindly deciding you know best. Too much fruit is not good for a guinea pig.
