Last night, around 10pm(EST) I went to feed my piggys at the same time as always. Everyone was normal. I filled up their bottles and went back to the cage that’s when I noticed a piggy with her fur puffed up with her back hump. I thought it was odd since not even 5 minutes ago she grabbed a veggie out my hand and ran off, no puffed fur, no humpback at the time.

I pick her up and next thing I know she had a pool of blood coming from her private area. I thought maybe her roommate bit her but the blood was too thick and sticky (similar to glue/soap). I cleaned her up and put her back in a clean cage.

I want to take her to the vet but family said no after what happen to the last few piggy this few months.

This is the first time something happen to me. I’m worried, Not sure what to do. Any advice? I had her for about 45 days. She is around 8months old. I got her from a friend that found out her other piggy was a male and need to rehome. She seem fine so far and is eating. Could it been that she had a miscarriage?

Hi

If she has been with a boar over 3 weeks of age before coming to you, then it can well be that she is having a miscarriage. A pregnancy lasts around 10 weeks.

I can however only guess and would be rushing any sow of mine to the vets at soonest in that kind of situation.

She should not least see a vet because of the risk of a fatal womb infection from babies still in there or dirt getting into the womb (pyometra) - a condition which can be avoided and treated by an antibiotic in the arly stages but is fatal in the later ones; if she has indeed had a miscarriage

.

:agr:

Any piggy that seems to be bleeding needs to see a vet asap.
I hope you can have her seen and it turns out to be easily treatable.

Please keep us updated as we are here to support you and your piggy.

Yes. I told she was with a boar for only 2 days. I got her on Jan 19. Making it around 45-47days. She wasn’t showing a pregnant stomach all those days.

I will try to get her to a vet. Hopefully I’m able to find someone to take me🙏🏻

She would not have been as far along to show much yet; especially if she was only a carrying one pup. Sows (especially young ones) can come into season spontaneously in the presence of boar pheromones if they are close enough in their estrus cycle. Two days would provide ample time for that to happen. :(

However, we can only speculate.

All the best for seeing a vet.
