Hi i’ve got a guinea pig who’s been recently neutered (10 days ago) his stitches are healing amazingly which is great however he’s on and off urinating with blood. He’s been to the vet for his neuter check up and they said to keep an eye on the blood in urine situation. He’s already on loxicom for his stitches and apparently that’s what they treat bloody urine with- however after a week the blood hasn’t gone. He will have on and off clear pees which is quite strange. He doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort. If anyone knows anything i would greatly appreciate a response- thank you

Thank you so much that’s very helpful. I’m pretty sure it’s a new thing as before his surgery i never noticed the blood. hopefully that can rule out any stones. I heard that 100% cranberry juice can be great for anything like a uti, should i give that a go?

No, cranberry juice does not work for guinea pigs on UTIs. All it does is introduce too much sugar into the diet which can cause other problems.

Ok thanks, i’ll look for patterns and take him to the vet if it persists for much longer

To add, should he have a UTI (bacterial), loxicom won’t treat it. Loxicom is a painkiller not an antibiotic

oh ok, that’s very helpful. The thing especially i don’t get is that he’s having intervals of clear urine as well, do you know if that happens with uti?

Yes it can.
The only way you are going to know whether he has a UTI is to see a vet and get them to check his urine. It’s a very simple check
