We got little Penny late October from a friend. She’d lost her husboar and this August had a big operation to remove her polycystic ovaries age five and a half. As she didn’t get on with their sows and we’d lost our Pickles we were lucky enough to pair her up with 5 yo Crumble/Brwsi at the end of October. Vet check and nail trim two weeks ago and all well but a bit of weight loss this week so started some top up feeding. Noticed she was squeaking a little when going to the toilet this afternoon and tonight as I put her on the scales she weed on the floor and I noticed what I am fairly sure is blood in her urine. Have taken a sample (in fridge now) and will call vet first thing in the morning. She otherwise seems fine and is eating and drinking normally. 🤞Reading the guidance not thinking a dash to the emergency vets but should maybe give her some loxicom just in case she’s in pain.

It looks like the classic start of a UTI or cystitis to me with a mix of clear and prophyrine coloured pee. Best book her in tomorrow to ensure that you are being seen next week. It will take a few days for symptoms to consolidate. :(

All the best!

Thank you Wiebke. Do you mean it’ll take a little longer to be able to correctly diagnose at this time? Hoping to be seen tomorrow or Sunday as they have a morning surgery though not sure if our GP expert will be in over the weekend.

Vet diagnosed UTI and prescribed loxicom/metacam and antibiotic co-trimoxazole once a day for 10 days plus top up feeding and daily weighing. She appreciated the urine sample which speeded the process.

Fingers crossed that the treatment works.

Not interested in veggies tonight beyond a couple of nibbles. Maintained her weight today but looks like we’ll be up feeding through the night and back to vet tomorrow. Reluctantly ate recovery food and fibreplex just now. 🙁

Sending healing vibes, I hope she feels better soon. It could be the antibiotics damping down her appetitie? I always seem to end up syringe feeding when my boars are on ABs!
Good luck with the vet tomorrow.

Good luck! I really hope your piggy pulls through!

Not good news. Ultrasound today revealed a large tumour on her bladder. All depends on rate of growth and if we can get her through the next few days. 🙁
