Hi there friends! This is my first post on here, but I decided I needed some advice.

My piggy, Wilbur, who is a 1.5 year old male, had some red urine on his newspaper last night. At first I thought it might be from his bell pepper (wishful thinking) but then as he was walking around the cage I noticed what looked like blood on whatever he brushed up against. So I booked him an appointment with an exotics vet for this evening, but today I didn't notice any more blood in the cage. I will still take him in, but I am just wondering is this normal for a UTI? For the blood to just go away?

With uti's it's not uncommon to have blood in urine that isn't visible to the eye. So the fact you can't see blood does not mean it's disappeared. Hopefully Wilbur will oblige with a nice big wee on the vets table and they can test it :)) that's what Donald did when he had his recent uti

Thank you! I just hope he isn't in too much pain! What is the treatment for a UTI? This is my first time owning piggies so I don't know very much about the treatment!

Treatment for a UTI will usually be metacam as a pain relief and an antibiotic. If you are prescribed only the antibiotic please do ask for the pain relief too (metacam is now licenced for guinea pigs so there shouldn't be a problem prescribing it). From personal experience I know how painful a UTI can be :))
