Does anyone have any advice for my six year old guinea? She’s not super bloated and her poops and pees are still totally healthy but I still feel she’s getting prone to bloating as she gets older. Any diet/at home things I can do?

Are you would need to look at her diet as a whole and see if there is anything triggering it. Some veg are known to cause bloating - brassicas
and veggies too high in sugar (carrots, sweet corn etc ) for example - but she may also have become sensitive to something as she has got older and her gut can’t manage with it so easily.

Make sure she gets plenty of exercise also.

This is our bloating guide with further information

Hi

Milder bloating in old age is not at all uncommon as the body is slowing down and nutrient absorption is not longer working optimally. The tissue is also no longer as firm so that any mild bloating becomes more visible. If the problem is sitting in the digestive system, then we are talking about primary bloat.
Avoid high sugar/starch root veg (esp. carrots) and grains, including sweet corn and keep the veg ideally on the green and leafy side with a small slice of pepper for vitamin C.

Please have your old lady vet checked for secondary bloating problems (i.e. the problem is caused by either pressure on the gut or pain radiating into it but is not located in the digestive system or process). Large non-hormonal fluid-filled ovarian cysts that are not causing any of the usual symptoms are very common at this age (the majority of older sows have them) or other internal growths, a fluid build up in the body cavity from a failing heart can look like mild or medium bloat. Arthritis in the lower spine can radiate into into the gut and can also cause bloating, just to name some of the more common issues, many of which can be eased.

I hope that this helps you?
