I think one of my piggies is bloated. How do I find out for certain and how can I help him?

Does his tummy sound hollow when you tap it? is he eating, and pooing?

Only a vet will be able to tell though. Are you able to get to a vet today?

He's eating fine, pooping ok, did one whilst massaging belly. His belly looks swollen but doesn't sound hollow. He's not as active as normal. Will add country now.

If you can get him to the vet they will be able to check for you. It is positive that he is eating and pooing but prompt vet attention is important if you suspect even the early signs of bloat.

Ok. Will get him to vets asap. I read somewhere about giving them gripewater? Until I can get to vets?

Getting him to the vet is a priority, you can mention gripewater whilst you are there.

Good luck x

Gave him 1ml of gripewater he's passed lots of poop and wind whilst having a tummy rub rang vets got an emergency for this afternoon. He's perked up loads and gave me a very affectionate kiss afterwards. Still going to vets just to be extra careful. Xx

Please see a vet promptly with bloating; it is one of the emergency issues with guinea pigs. The sooner you can treat, the better his recovery chances. Severe, fully developed bloat can kill.

That is great news! Good that you have had him checked over. Bloat is a nasty thing.
