My piggy, Little, suffers with gastrointestinal problems. We've started to think he might have IBS. Basically his poos are always soft or cow-pat-like and veg always makes them worse. We keep his poos more or less normal with daily probiotic. I’m used to hearing tummy sounds from him but last night it was constant.
It started at about 11pm, so I was checking on him and massaging his tummy throughout the night. This morning, his tummy is still really gurgley. I called the vet who can’t get him in until 6:30pm, since I don’t drive this is the only vet I’m able to get to. The sides of his tummy seem quite squishy but then his tummy will gurgle and they’ll harden up and then gurgle and be squishy again. So I’m not sure if it’s bloat he has? The tummy noises are constant though.
About an hour ago, I decided to root through the medicine cabinet and found some ranitidine and emeprid that’s a year old. I know it generally only keeps 6 months before losing effectiveness but I decided to give him some of each. I’m hoping this wasn’t a mistake but I’m worried things could be bad by 6:30 if I do nothing. His poos today have either been perfectly formed or in large cow-pad masses that I’m having to remove for him. I’ve also given him some metacam.
Anyway, does this sound like bloat? I’ve only dealt with it once and it was very different to this. Last year, Peanut was eating his veg and his tummy just expanded massively so he was taken to the vet. But now, Little’s tummy is very loud, it’s been going on about 13 hours and his tummy is normal but then hardening and sounding hollow when tapped and then going normal again. I’m hoping the medicine starts to kick in and actually works for him
I’m hoping that I’ve done the right thing by giving it to him too, but I classed it as being needed as an emergency
