I’m a fairly seasoned guinea pig owner as I have now four guinea pigs, but am not familiar with bloat. I just got the fourth about two weeks ago, and she eating well and drinking lots. However, I noticed she was a little pear shaped and was wondering if it could possibly be bloat? I picked her up initially having somewhat of a pear shape but she’s eating and pooping well. I’m not sure if it’s because she’s small and needs to fill in or if she could possibly be bloated. I’ve attached the image of the cutie! Thanks for the help :)5007B2F3-F821-41FB-9B0D-2897058F7207.webp

Do her sides feel tight like a balloon? Any pointed poos? And have you definitly not got a male with her?

Hi! I would recommend to have your girl vet checked in case she is pregnant. Some piggies are naturally very pear-shaped but we always recommend to double-check the gender and have a vet check unless you adopt from a good standard rescue with mandatory quarantine/vet care and a mandatory pregnancy watch for any incoming sows over 4 weeks. I am always amazed just how economic with the truth people keen to get rid of a problem pet are!

Pregnancy & Baby Care Guide's

Serious bloat is characterised by a hard belly that sounds like a drum when you gently knock against it; you have also not mentioned any other symptoms that would ring an alarm bell to me.

I don’t believe she is pregnant as she is with other confirmed females right now and isn’t showing signs of pregnancy. I’ve never experienced having such a pear shaped guinea pig though :) I’ll keep an eye on her thanks.
