So I've had to deal with bloat for the first time within the past 6 months

First time it was evening so it was an emergency vet trip, he was eating fine so they gave some medication there and then, I took him home and he was fine next day

Second occasion last week he stopping eating alongside, again it was the evening so had to emergency vet again, they gave him medications but said he was fine to return home and I continue care there, 2 days of critical care and he was fine again

My question is what to do if there is next time? this was £400 in vet bills and I've had 2 other animals at the vets this month also.
Its not that I don't want to pay its just its been alot recently so anything I can do at home that wont comprise his health would be great.

I no a lot of people use gripe water for bloat but ive never used it, is this something I could consider for next time.
I have read an article on here regarding bloat but wanted advice.

Thanks

Hi

Gripe water (a herbal concoction for babies) is useful for cases of mild bloat but doesn't work for severe bloat.

Please see your regular vet and ask them whether they would be prepared to give you a small stash of gut meds and painkillers to be able to step in asap without having to make a trip to the out-of-hours vets as you have had two rounds now.
Serious bloating can be either caused by dysbiosis (overgrowth of the wrong bacteria in the gut) or by something impacting on the gut, whether that is acute pressure on the gut or pain radiating into the gut.

Here is our bloating advice for those reading the thread and wondering what guide is being referred to: Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Here is our advice for gut supportive products; 'poo soup' is free as long as you have a health companion and is - if made correctly (the how to tips are in the guide link) - rather effective.
First Aid Kit: Easily available non-medication support products for an emergency
Probiotics, Recovery Foods And Vitamin C: Overview With Product Links

All the best for getting to the bottom of it.

Thanks, I phoned the emergency vet as there the ones who dealt with him but they said I need to speak to my regular vet
Called them and she said I might need an appointment before they can give me anything, so there going to ask a vet and find out for me
