Hi i am new to this website so bare with me. My name is Rae, This morning i woke up to my Guinea pig Betty Sue stuck in her hay bin. ive already gotten her free but when i was googling one after another i found no answers what to do. i have no money for a vet at the moment (i can cal my father and probably get her in for an appointment tomorrow or and emergency) and she seems fine not really moving but squeeking all happy I'm going to watch her for now. She was sick with a respiratory infection so she is wheezing it has gotten worse but i dont know what could have happened i already gave her a check she doesnt seem to have any broken bones. She just isnt herself. Maybe scared? if anyone has had this happen please some advice would be great she is only 6 months old, blind and deaf. So all the help i can get is amazing.

You can’t tell if she has any broken bones or any soft tissue injuries, she may just be scared but being checked by a vet is a good idea to make sure she is truly ok.

It would be a good idea just to feed hay loose on the floor so she can’t climb into any hay racks or holders.

Has she been seen by a vet and being treated for her respiratory infection?

I’m so sorry for her, I agree a vet check would be the best option to put your mind at ease x

Hope she makes a full recovery 🤞

I will be trying to get in contact with my father so for now i will be keeping an eye on her! I have also removed the hay bin and put the hay on the floor for her so she cant get hurt anyway. i just never thought she’d try to go through the bars. ill keep this updated!

Aw your little lady is a “Lethal white girl” how lovely she is. There’s a lady on here that has two lethal boys called Silver and Forest, they manage so well despite being blind and deaf. I hope she is alright from her experience 🤞 @Eriathwen.

Here is our guide in Lethal white piggies you may find it helpful

I'm sorry i didn’t answer your post fully, i took they hay bin out and yes she has bene on anti biotics for about a week now. my one concern with her meds they seem to have crystallized a tiny bit and i dont know if thats safe for her? ive kept it in a cool dry place so i dont know how it happened in the first.

Aw she is lovely! If your antibiotics have crystallised (I'm assuming it's baytril?) Then usually that means it's got a little bit of dirt in it and needs replacing, it used to happen to me all the time when I would use the same syringe, now I just use a new one each time for baytril as I can't keep it from going cloudy otherwise, no matter how hard I try...apparently I'm not very good at washing syringes 😅 My vet has always told me to throw out any cloudy or crystallised baytril and get fresh, it won't do her any harm, it just won't really be effective any more.

I find my lethal whites wheeze and honk if they get stressed or upset, they have misshapen skulls so their nasal passages make noise where a healthy one would not, its also possible when she got stuck she struggled and kicked up some hay dust, irritating her airways. I would definitely get her checked when you can by a vet just to be safe if she isnt acting herself.
It's possible she has some neurological issues due to being a lethal and the stress from getting stuck may have caused that to become worse, my boys neuro issues do show more symptoms when stressed.
Hopefully she's back to her old self soon! 🙂
