So I've posted here twice, talking about my two piggies I got.

so currently, their cage has a mesh of sorts bottom. They seem to be able to walk over it fine, but just to make sure their bedding doesn't fall through the holes, I place newspaper down, then cover it with bedding. But the thing is, the newspaper tends to slip around and theres bare spots.I want their cage to be nice and clean and for them to not possibly get their paws stuck down in the holes of the bottom of the cage. So I thought, I'd buy 2 fleece pet blankets. I'd put one on the bottom of the cage, cover it in their normal bedding, and hopefully it'd have enough grip to not slide around as they run and would keep their little feetsies from getting stuck in the holes. Then, when I clean their cage, i'll just clean it as normal, put the second blanket in and put the dirty one in the wash, rinse and repeat. I wanted to ask what you all thought of this idea, as I like getting opinions. I know fleece blanket bedding is absolutely a thing for guinea pigs, so I figure it's fine, but I'm a nervous new owner and wanna be absolutely sure of everything.

I don't think a mesh base is a good idea. I advise you look at something solid for the base layer - maybe lino ?

Sadly, I cant really control what the base is. It's sorta built into the cage, which is why I'm putting stuff ontop of it;; I am getting them a new cage, because I got this cage before I found out it's a bit too small for them. But for now I have to make due with what I have.

Maybe you could place correx/cardboard,puppypad over the floor.then towel and fleece blanket, that is what i use to cover a grid messane .

oh! that's a very good idea! I will definitely do that, i'll put cardboard around the bottom of it to hold the blanket better and do my usual plan. Thanks very much for the tip! I appreciate it!

hi, if you place a towel and fleece ,the towel will absorb the wee.leaving the fleece dry ! i find bedding just sticks to fleece blankets !unless you are using a paper bedding which in my experience does not stick to fleece as much ,just a thought !:)

hi! actually, part of the idea was having the bedding stick to the fleece, as they tend to kick a lot of the bedding out of their cage when they run. So with it sticking to the fleece, they don't kick it out as much! my idea was I'll just take the blanket off, knock it off outside and toss it in the wash. Thanks for the concern, but that's entirely what I was hoping for! ^^

It sounds like an excellent idea.hope all goes well.
I actually set it all up last night, and it was a bit of a pain to get to work, but it seems to be working perfectly! the guinea pigs are happy and popcorning, they're loving the soft fleece under their feet and I'm not having to clean around their cage as much due to the shavings sticking to the fleece, so it seems to be a win win!
