Hi guys! I took my guinea pig to the vet today because he had blood in urine and was in discomfort. The x-ray showed bladder stones. The vet prescribed him with antibiotics, probiotics, and pain meds. He is doing much better now and there isn't any more blood in his urine, but he started having diarrhea and I think it might be because of the antibiotics. What should I do? Should I still continue with the treatment or should I stop? Please advise me on what to do next.

Please speak to your vet as to what to do as antibiotics should never just be stopped without vet advice.

Is surgery being planned for the stones?
Bladder stones don’t tend to come out of boars on their own unless they are absolutely tiny and surgery is almost always needed. Boars have an angle in their urethra which stones aren’t able to get past. If a stone tries to pass and it gets stuck it will unfortunately become an emergency situation.

Pleas also review the diet. There is a genetic disposition to stone which we obviously cannot do anything about but most calcium comes into the diet via pellets and water. Ensuring pellets are kept very limited to no more than one tablespoon per day, water is filtered and high calcium veg aren’t fed often is all we can do.
