Exactly a week tomorrow, my Miki underwent bladder stone removal surgery. The poor thing had started peeing blood and an X-ray revealed a stone.

I’m a bit concerned about his recovery though. He is still crying when weeing, and can’t seem to do a “normal” wee - just produces drops of bloody urine. He’s also shrieking when pooping, even though he’s still on painkillers.

His wound looks completely fine, he’s got his usual appetite and is drinking loads. He’s also acting like his usual crazy self. BUT is barely peeing and not gaining weight (thankfully maintaining).

I’m a bit concerned because he’s only 11 months old, and I know peeing blood for 3 days post-op is normal, but a week? Should I be calling the vets or is this normal?

Hi!

Please contact your vet promptly and have your boy checked for bladder trauma or a bladder infection.
What kind of metacam dosage is he on? Cat or dog strength?

We will contact the vet, thank you.

He is on Metacam Dog 0.51ml twice a day for ten days

That is a top dosage for metacam, so if he is still in pain on top of that, then something is not right.
All the best!

PS: Are you giving glucosamine to help repair the natural glucosamine cloating in the urinary tract walls that prevents the corrosive urine from coming into contact with raw tissue? A cat food supplement like cystease capsules or cystophan may help.
Your vet will have to judge whether you are dealing with bladder trauma, a bacterial cystitis a secondary infection to the damage of the bladder/urethral walls from the stone bashing or embedding into them or whether the stone removal may have triggered more little stones in the kidney to move down into the ureters.
