Hello everyone, my most recent adoption/rescue, a 3 year old female, has been bleeding from her vaginal area lately. Today we had an appointment and have found out she has a bladder stone. I was quoted 600 to 800 dollars for the surgery, which I don't have, having spent 400 in the last 2 weeks on my other rescue. I was curious if anyone has ever taken other routes to get rid of the stones for their pigs and could offer me advice. I'm just looking for ideas and options or if surgery is the only and best route. I was prescribed Meloxidyl for pain but only have a short supply of that.. Just reaching out for advice and suggestions and so forth.
Thank you!

We have been discussing by message but I advised starting a thread in case anyone knows of any options that don't involve surgery.

Pain relief is key here, so it would be good if the vet can give you some more as if she is in pain she will not eat properly which will cause other issues.

She seems to be in more pain as of today, making more noise than ever before when peeing.
I don't want to drag this out any longer so I have caved and made a page.

The page I got set up for her.

Pain relief is vital in this. please push your vet to get some more. Do they offer payment plans for surgery?

They do not offer payments. I have called multiple vets within an hour and a half drive of where I live and all say payment upfront. Which is why I'm starting to get worried. Like I have said before I recently forked out a large sum of money for my other rescue with her eye infection and don't have what I would need for Chai now but I know how urgently stones need to be taken care of..

Her pee is also getting much more consintrated with blood.. I'm stressing excessively.

I'm so very worried for her. I have signed up for 12 hour shifts at work for extra money but I get paid bi-weekly and I don't want to drag it out that long knowing she's in pain and the situation could get progressively worse. I feel so stuck.

I've donated 10 dollars, I wish I could donate more but I'm a bit short on money at the moment.I really hope your little one gets through this xx
I thank you so much regardless of price. I feel guilty even asking for donations because I believe in working for things myself and not asking for handouts. But this isn't for me, this is for Chai and her health, only reason I caved. I can't prolong her need for surgery. I truly appreciate it.

You're very welcome, I totally understand why you're asking for funding, you only want to get your piggie better xx

Exactly. I have 9 piggies right now, 6 girls and 3 boys. I typically work out all financial situations on my own but in the last 3 weeks - month I rescued 2 females (not together) and both had problems. Sunflower with an eye infection, which is clearing up wonderfully at the moment and Chai with her bladder stones. I have a soft heart for animals in need though, knowing they're neglected and mistreated. I couldn't let them go without a good home so I took them in and come to find out both had issues

You could ask your vet to also prescribe tramadol for pain relief- several of us on here have been using it for our pigs alongside metacam - depending on the size of the stone if it is a small one there is the very tiny possibility that by syringe feeding her NO MORE than 2 ml of fizzy water 3 times a day it may help to flush the stone out (its the bubbles in the gas )- but that wont help if it is too large - these are the only things I can suggest.

I am so terribly sorry for your predicament. However, asking for donations for vets fees on the forum is not permitted. I have edited your post to remove the link. I am truly sorry but the rules exist to protect all members and we have to be even handed in moderating the forum. I hope you will understand this although I appreciate that you will be disappointed.
