Hi. Is anyone registered with Blacks Vets in Oldbury in the West Midlands or know of anyone that is? I use Manor Vets at the moment but they changed management a while back and sometimes it feels like they’re just out to get as much money as possible. I had a chat with a vet over the phone a few weeks ago and was still charged £41 consultation fee and they wanted £13 for a bottle of potassium citrate which I managed to get from a pharmacy for just under £3! I absolutely do not mind paying what I have to for my piggies but this just felt extortionate. I’ve heard good things about Blacks Vets but from people with dogs and cats.

In comparison, I had a Vet consultation over the phone and it cost me £18...

Wow, more than half the price. I understand they provided a service and I don’t expect that for free but I thought they might have reduced the fee slightly seeing as they weren’t able to physically examine him.

I also only paid £18 for a phone call with my Vet and if the piggie needed to go in i wouldn’t of had to pay anymore!

Please can you let me know in what form you get the Potassium Citrate. Is it powder & how much do you give a guinea pig. I've heard 0.1ml mentioned but that must be a liquid. Thanks in advance

This is the one I got. The amount you give depends if you’re administering straight into the mouth or putting it in their water, it’s best to check with your vet how much you should give. It’s been a little while since I administered, I can’t remember the dose I gave.
