Black nails

My youngest guniea pig Willow has quite a few black nails and I have no idea how to go about cutting them because it can't see the quick. Any advice about how to cut black nails would be appreciated.

Shining a torch up through the nail can help you see the quick.

I have a couple of piggies with black nails and I tend to cut them just by taking a very small amount off each time but doing it more often.

Our Harry has some black-as-night nails and I've always just gone very cautiously with them, snipping a little at a time. Over time I've developed a much better feel for how far we can go comfortably, but it's certainly nerve-wracking! Thank goodness he's a very chill soul who's very open to some bribery to stay still

My Ella has black nails. I’m a wimp and take my piggies to the vets to have their nail trimmed but the nurse always takes the tips off and as little as they can get away with but as mentioned, shining a torch under the nail will help you see the quick
