Hello me again,

You'll be sick of me soon lol

Just had the pigs out for half an hour of floor time and today I decided to lie on the floor and let the pigs come to me.

First of all they were very scared and snuggled into various hiding places then got a little more adventurous and started to come to me and sniff me.

Eventually they were climbing all over me and sniffing my face etc.

However one of the pigs bit me and i'm not sure if it was just a playful bite or a warning.

Mocha came and sniffed my hand and started licking it (which was really cute) she then started nibbling (which is fine) then she bit down so hard i'm not sure how I didn't shout lol.

I know from having other pets the worst thing to do in that situation is to react because it teaches the animal that biting will get a reaction (not good).

So was this just her way of testing the waters or was it a warning of some kind?

Thanks in advance

LOL They always do this. I do not think they know it is part of your body. When I clean the cage the girls will often bite my feet. Is is so cute they were climbing on you though. :)

One of my boys, Bentley, always bites, and it doesn't seem like he's being mean i guess it's his own little way of saying hello, he's a crazy boy, he doesn't bite hard just a nibble with a few licks in between if I'm lucky !
Where as my other pig Chester will lick you till your finger is wet and dripping he's such a loving pig but he's the dominant one so Bentley is shy and nippy, the opposite :)

Many bites are down to pigs not having great sight of anything in front of them so they test to see if it's food, when i've been cutting veg or eating something i tend to get the odd nibble of my pigs as they seem to smell the food, maybe this was the problem you had ?

I wouldnt worry too much, I expect you smelled good so she wanted to see if you tasted good. I get this. I actually had to stop using a cucumber and kiwi shower gel i had because they kept trying to eat me. ¬_¬ Took me a while to put two and two together. :)

I had my feet nibbled tonight :)

The only time I've been biten hard was when my boys had a skin infection. I didn't know at the time, after being delivered a painful bite when I really didn't know why, I came on the internet to google why! Results returned - perhaps they have a skin infection, so I went in for further inspection and hidden behind a layer of fur was indeed a 50p size of raw skin - and then the nightmare of fungalness began! Atleast I caught it at that stage.

Not saying that is the reason, they probably did wonder whether you were food, but I know now if ever I'm delivered a painful bite it's because my boys are probably suffering from something. So worth just having a quick check.

Back again lol.

A few nights ago caramac drew blood and must say hit hurt a bit as well lol.

I must have made a sound because she stopped and just looked up at me.

She's done it again tonight (however no blood) and figured out that she can smell the veggies on my hands from when I washed them.

So all along it must have been my fault :)

my older male bites when he 'wishes' to go back to his cage and unfortunately this seems to of become a learnt behaviour especially with my partner :)) and my younger male i believe has 'accidently' done so when I think he perceived my hand to be food!

I don't think it's aggression. I think you tasted good at the nibbling stage so he decided to take a chunk with him! One of my pigs really likes to lick hands... if you let her lick you, she will proceed to nibbling, and the one time I didn't stop her from nibbling she tried to take a chunk out of my arm! Now I just make sure to move my hand away once she has a couple 'nibbles' before she bites down hard, and then she starts again at the licking stage when I move my hand back again.

The licking and nibbling give signs of it not being aggression and more like testing if it was something she could eat!

my two boys can be quite licky however Carrot does sometime have a habit of getting carried away and nibbling your fingers. He only ever nibbles my daughter as she is normally the one who has the veggies :)

Are these your first piggies? Just wondering as we got nipped a few times with our first pair, after that we learnt when not to put our fingers near their mouths & it hasn't happened much since lol :))
