Hi everyone,

Both Star and Jack have bit me, Star since I got him and Jack a few times in the past few days..

I'm treating them the best I can, feeding them, cuddles, floor time, everything I can to make them happy, Jack bit my finger earlier..

I'm wondering if its because sometimes or more often than not I hand feed them their fresh veg, and they think the smell of my skin means there is fresh veg around somewhere?

I'm trying to get them to stop with load wheeking when they do it but I'm not sure if it will work.

Anyone got any ideas on how I could help stop this?

Thankx x

Dont put your fingers near their mouth ? ::) ;D
Mine have NEVER biten me and wouldn't dare to bite me either :) :D

This could be why O0 but maybe after youve given it to them then wash your hands ;)

Piggies dont have very good eyesight so a sudden finger near them could indicate danger to them or indeed a tasty carrot. I speak to mine first and they sniff my hand before I stroke or pick them up. They have smelt veg or herbs on me and sometimes have a lick or a light nibble, but never bite :)

lilah always bites me. She especially likes climbing up to my face and biting my lips, nose and chin ::)

I have been serverly bitten a few years ago when I split up two boars fighting. NEVER put your hands inbetween two bigs fighting, always find a bowl or something, it hurt really bad! I was bitten at the bottom of my wedding finger and palm of my hand, it went black and I could not move my hand for days.
Are you sure they are not nibbling you, going to lick you? I rarely get bitten by the pigs but the do nibble my fingers espcially if I have been handling their food.

Oh yeah I mean't nibbling but it does hurt a bit lol.
I have done that too Emma! I got bitten on my thumb, but it didn't go as bad as yours! Sounds painful :o

mine nibble then lick, I did once get my hands inbetween my two bridge bunnies that were going at it, i ended up with 5 stitches and a scar (that i adore as my blossom did it and i miss her really bad!... bit worped really :o)
I know it was my fault but it was in the garden and i just had to try to separate them... with the pigs i use a t towel to throw at them.

It DID hurt! Tara one of my sows is a very kissy sow but it you are handling her around feed time she will nibble and sometimes try to bite because she is hungry.

My daughter got bitten once - she had just eaten a banana before cuddling her guinea pig. That is the only time either of them have bitten, so I'm sure it's because the pig could smell the fruit on her.

Now we all wash our hands before and after handling pigs.

I have never been badly biten just licked a lot ;D

Tho Pippin was having floor time the other day and after pop corning around for an hour I put her back in the cage which she wasn't please about and gave me a bite.
It didn't hurt but I'm sre she was thinking you meanie take this ::)

Thank you all for replying.

I'll stop hand feeding them now then and I wash my hands inbetween having lap time with both of them as they dont really get along so I'll keep it up and hope it dies down.

Just want to make my piggies as happy as possible, but theyre being stubborn hehe

thankx again

Some piggies do just bite! Most of the others on here have been very lucky if a piggy has never bitten them!

When I got Bully who is 10 months now, he was a serial biter >:D He still can be a bit snappy in the mornings, but in the evenings he is the sweetest cuddliest, lickiest pig I have ever had, I just know to keep my fingers away from him in the mornings!

Mary and I do think he is a little poorer in sight than the average pig which is why it has taken so long to win him round, but you have to persevere through the bites, I used to say "ouch" loud and blow on his nose everytime he did it and not put him down like he thought I was going to!

My boar tries to have an occasional nibble on me but I like to think that this is just overenthusiastic kissing!

I did read somewhere that GPs that crave salt will lick and sometimes bite as our skin is apparently high in salt.
