Hello ...
I have had two female guineas for about 2months. They have been housed in a spare room until we got the shed ready which is where they are going to live ongoing (the shed is fully insulated, with lots of natural daylight and ventilation). They were put in there this morning for the first time. I have got them out this afternoon for cuddles and noticed that one of my girls had two bite marks on her face. There has been no sign of fighting before now - only the normal working out dominance etc. I'm worried I'll have to separate them, but I really haven't got the room for this. Could this be the sign of things to come? Or could it be because they've moved? Or something else?
Thanks for any help/advice in advance :)

Just tagging in our expert on behavior and bondings for you @Wiebke

How are things today, sorry we missed your thread? Has their been anymore fighting? Any blood drawn?

Once piggies have drawn blood you will normally have to separate. How long have they been living together?

Hi, firstly, as your girls have been getting on up to now are you sure it is a bite mark? Fungal skin infections are not uncommon in young piggies and usually start on their faces. if this is a possibility she will need to see a vet.

if it is a bite, is it a proper bite or more of a scratch? Pigs can spin round quickly when being aggrevated from behind and cause superficial grazes to anothers lips with their teeth.

As they are sows it is much less likely they will have a major fall out than if they were boars but a change of environment can still sometimes cause an upset even when it is into upgraded larger accomodation, as all the excitement about being somewhere new can trigger diminance behavior. This should settledown once they have agreed who is in charge.

Pound Shilling & Pig has made all the points I would have made, too.

Hey everyone
Thanks for all your replies. There doesn't seem to have been anymore problems since the day they were moved.
My pig who is the most shy has started chattering her teeth again, and she hasn't done that since the first week we had her. So I'm hoping it was just a scratch rather than a bite, and it's because they're getting used to their new environment. (There hasn't been any blood either that I can see).
The marks on her face seem to be healing quickly so not sure if it is an infection, but thanks for making me aware, as I didn't know that was common. Always handy to know for future.
Fingers crossed it will all settle down very soon :)
