My black rodent sometimes bites his own claws, what’s that all about? He ends up making them shorter, thinner and sharper. When it comes to claw cutting time I sometimes have to miss out chopping the ends off some of his claws because he’s bitten them right down himself.

All 3 of my girls do this. From what I've read it seems to be their own way of keeping their nails trim and is nothing to worry about, unless they seem to be doing it out of boredom/stress.

In that case I wish he'd do all his claws so that I didn't have to bother doing it myself.

Hmn.

Must say my black rodent don't look stressed though. Yeah I grab him 3 times a day to shuv eye ointment into his eyes but he usually don't try to make a runner from me. He loves me. I can pick him up easily now. He seems a chilled rodent.

I would imagine having eye drops three times a day would stress him out. Do not forget guinea pigs hide any signs of distress or discomfort.

I would think it'd depend on the personality of the pig whether or not it were stressed out.
I have had to administer eye drops quite a few times to pigs over the years, some more than 3 x a day. It's not something they particularly enjoy but neither would I & none have ever been stressed to the point they've started chewing their nails.

Not all guinea pigs hide signs of distress/discomfort, some will happily wheek their heads off at being touched where they don't wish to be touched.

ditto occasionally like bites hold of the nail then lets go whilst hes scratching his face? Or if hes just washed..

I am not critisizing the op merely giving my opinion as my own piggies have been very stressed when I have had to give them eye drops.
