Two days ago I noticed a small bump just above my guinea pig (manny) lip under his nose it isn’t very large and when investigating closer it didn’t hurt him when it was touched (with washed hands) I came to the conclusion it was a scab from a scratch/cut but was unsure how it had gotten there as manny and his brother Uzi don’t regularly fight and are pretty chill now. This morning when brushing manny I noticed another small cut on the opposite side from where the first one was again it didn’t hurt him and he wasn’t fussed about me going near it this time it didn’t have a scab over it so it obviously hadn’t been there long enough to scab could someone please have a look at the picture & let me know what they think it is a scratch, bite or self inflicted. I have cleaned both wounds with salt water which I read on here was the best option.

Does it look like it’s healing or still fresh? I can’t really tell you what it is I’m afraid.

It isn’t bleeding, but you can still see the redness from the wound where as the other one has a scab over it which blends in slinky with his fur.

Hi!

It looks like a glancing bite or a misjudged back leg swipe.

Please see a vet if you notice any heat, redness and/or swelling in the area (infection/potential abscess).
First Aid Kit: Easily available non-medication support products for an emergency (includes saline solution recipe in case of an emergency)

How old are your boars? Please keep in mind that short-lived hormone spikes can last into adulthood.

Sadly I have no idea exactly how old they are, I bought them from a pet store and the man told me they were fairly new and the youngest of the guinea pigs they had in store, I’ve had them for almost five months and would say when I first got them they weren’t older than a couple months at most as they were tiny🥺

in that case, they are likely now in their teens (16 weeks to 14 months of age) and experiencing the highest levels of hormones.

this guide, as well as the ones wiebke linked in above, can help explain teen boar behaviour
