Hi all,
I want a new cage for my guinea pig and that might also be good for a pair for some time in the future.
The problem is I have a lot of mice in my house and I figured they might bother her if I don't get a closed plastic cage.
Now I know the ventilation is worse in those but it doesn't get really warm in my area and I keep the rest of my room well ventilated so I was hoping this might not be too bad, especially if I get a bigger cage.
But from Rody or Zoozone I can only find cages up to 100cm by 51cm (39" x 20"). I would prefer something bigger but does anyone know of such a thing from full plastic?
Or does anyone know an other sollution for me (a way to keep the mice out of her cage)?
Thanks!
Leonie

I believe ferplast do a 'rabbit 150' cage which is, erm, 150cm long.

Have a look on zooplus, they have a good few cages.

I had 2x 150cm cages, these were the biggest at the time (Ferplast were set to release a 160cm one, but apparently I heard that the quality was rubbish, rather flimsy), but the plastic is only the tray, it doesn't go all the way up like the ones I think you mean.

If I'm thinking of the right ones, there is a wire grill at the top which is the door. Mice will be determined when they are after food so could potentially still get in one of these cages, and wouldn't be able to get out again.

Yea I mean the one that have plastic all the way to the top, like Zoozone Large Dark Blue (http://www.thepetexpress.co.uk/?p=2_4&pid=5024), only preferably bigger. Mice just keep pestering my house no matter what but I have a full plastic one now and put some extra wiring on the top so mice can't get in there either (I believe they haven't so far).

If you build a cage from all wires, it should be better for ventilation and keep the mice out.

This one is built from garage shelving and garden wires. The owner of the cage has posted some instructions. You can click on the pics to see more info. The cage is 1.2m x 0.9m (47 x 35 inches)

Or you could use coroplast for the whole cage and make some lids from wires.

The ventilation in those cages is completely inadequate. If you have a problem with mice (we used to) then the best solution is to find out where they're getting in and block it off or invest in some peanut butter and humane traps.

Yea... look I live in an old building, mice are getting in everywhere. Did you know they can get through holes of 1 square cm? They can also jump pretty high so you have to have something that they can't jump onto and also is smooth enough so they can't climb. I really don't want them to get to my pig and you're calling me a bad owner? I'm just trying to find the best sollution here.
Lissie you're houses look great but I can hardly believe they are mouse-proof if you really have some mice in your house.
I am trying to find something. Btw why is it those zoozone or rody things don't have like really small holes in the upper part? Could I perhaps drill some if I went from inside to out (so the edges will be on the other side)?

Thanks, but those houses are not mine :) I just saw them on other guinea pigs forums.

I just thought of another idea. If you raise the cage and put high plexiglas/perspex high wall all around the base of the cage, the mice won't be able to get to your piggies. You can put the cage on a table.

This is my cage, by the way.

@CandyFloss, Thanks for the compliments :)

@LeoRuubs, I drew this model for you. It's just an idea on how to keep the mice out. I'm not sure how high they can climb, but this cage is on top of a table and the wall outside is 2 feet high.

The cage itself is a C&C, In case you're interested: http://www.guineapigcages.com/

@lissie Ok! Thanks for the ideas! I will definitely consider them.
And amazing model.
