Hey guys I just got my guinea pig less than two weeks ago and today when petting her I noticed a hard lump behind her ear. I took her out of her cage and I'm super worried. The lump is about the size of a grape and it has some fluidity to it. There is also a huge scab on it. I'm going to take her to the vet soon but I can't today since there's currently a snowstorm. Does anyone know what this is/how the vet will treat her?

Hi, your poor pig - that looks sore!

I'm sorry but I've not seen this before, just wanted to advise that the forum health experts (and most of the forum) are UK-based and it's currently just gone 1.30am here, so they're most likely asleep. People usually start surfacing at about 7am though so hopefully someone will be around soon. 🙂

 awww bless her, it could be a burst abscess or infected sebaceous cyst - I'd pop her along to a vet to get her checked out, it might need to be cleaned out, antibiotics or painkillers.

Welcome to the forum  she looks a pretty pig :luv:

Ps. If you bought her from a pet store you might be able to claim back the cost of veterinary treatment as in the UK she'd be classed as 'faulty goods'. I'm not sure how the USA consumer laws work though?
There are a few US members who might be able to help with that?

PPS. if you add your state, US members might be able to recommend a good gpig savvy vet near to you too?

Healing vibes little lady   xx

Hello and welcome to the forum. She’s beautiful. Yes that does require a trip to the vet. Keep us posted on how you get on. Good luck.

Hello and welcome. I’m afraid as we aren’t vets and haven’t examined her we would only be speculating what it could be, but it definitely does require a hands on exam by a vet. Poor little thing - if you’ve not long since got her from a pet shop they may help with the vet costs.

I hope the antibiotics clear it up quickly. Keep weighing her weekly. Antibiotics can sometimes make them lose their appetite. You may have to syringe feed if that happens. Good luck.
