Hi everyone,

I currently have 3 ladies in a 4 x 3 C&C cage and think we are going to get another 1 or 2 to live with them soon.

My son and I volunteer at a rescue centre and a lady who works there is very ill and has had to permanently rehome all her bunnies and pigs. She had 3 pigs, 2 girls and a neutered boy. One of the girls had an awful mouth abscess and had to be put to sleep last week. The other girl is grieving badly, and the boy is now unwell. He's stopped eating and is hiding all the time. He also has a lump on his back which needs removing. The vet has said she won't operate until he is eating and is better in himself.

So basically, we are going to definitely take the girl, and are keeping everything crossed that the boy gets better and we'll have him too (but they are keeping them together until we know for definite what is happening with the boy).

Where their house is now I could add a 2 x 2 extension (which by my reckoning is 16 squares worth?), does this sound big enough? I've thought about a loft, we did use to have one before but it was never used, I think they were too frightened to go up and down the ramp (it wasn't particularly steep either!).

The other thing I could do is change where the C&C is, and make it 7 x 2, but that would make it a smaller area wouldn't it (14 squares?).

Any advice would be much appreciated,
Sally

When you say a 2x2 extension do you mean 2 more grids each way? So making it a 6 x 5? Sorry I'm having trouble picturing it. A 7x2 would be perfectly adequate, but bigger is always better. And I do think that one large open space is better than multiple levels to add space.

I have 4 pigs in a 7 x 2 with a 1 x 2 loft.
They all use the loft at various times, and I like that they have a place to get away from everything if they want to (Eddi uses it a lot when their is 'girl drama' happening downstairs). Having said that, I know a lot of piggies won't use a loft, so if you were to add one I wouldn't count it as floor space.

I think 7 x 2 is fine for 4 piggies and possibly even 5, although a lot of it would depend on the shape.
Mine is an L shape which I think is less ideal, so I am waiting on grids to extend it a bit more.

Zombie Princess - no I meant keep it as a 4 x 3 but stick a bit on one end, 2 x 2 grids, so to make it a bit of an L shape.

I've made an appointment at the vets for my oldest girl, she's not been 'right' the last few days. Nothing I can put my finger on, she's spending a lot of time just sitting in her box staring at me, and not moving when I go in the room. I'm really worried...
