Hello everyone, I have two beautiful long-haired piggies, a Sheltie and an Abyssinian, so obviously their fur tends to require a little more TLC than a shorter-haired breed. I was just hoping to get some good tips on grooming them, particularly their back end as I expect that is more likely to get matted.
If it’s best to trim their back ends, what’s the safest tool to use? Are regular scissors okay if my partner holds the piggy securely? And how often should they ideally be groomed with a brush?

I give Betsy a bum bath before she gets a very fashionable wedge cut around her bum. Obviously as the weather is colder I have to make sure she is nice and dry before hand. I am in the middle of writing a guide for long haired piggies and grooming. You may find these threads useful. I wrote them a while ago.

Guide to Cavy Coiffure (or how to give your guinea pig a haircut)Part 1
Guide to Cavy Coiffure Part 2

They are a bit tongue in cheek but the next one will be serious.
Thank you very much, I’ll give that a good read. Also, might I add that my Casper looks a lot like your Betsy!

Piccies needed of Casper then! I have only ever seen one other piggy like The Ever Beautiful Betsy. He was called Mushroom and he was owned by a member up in Scotland if I remember rightly. It was a couple of years ago.

Here is an eyebrow and nose shot of Casper - long lost twins? 😋

Most probably. How old is Casper? Betsy has just turned 4. She has cataracts and can't see very much if anything but it doesn't stop her. The love of her life is my little cutey pie Dennis. It was love at first sight 💘. They are completely besotted with each other.

Both are beautiful - such a cute pair! Casper is about six months, he recently moved in with his lady friend Cookie who is a little bit younger - so far so good, they seem to be obsessed with one another! 💘

My late piggy Stanley had flowing locks, I bought a pair of quiet ceramic hair clippers and gave him a buzz cut, he was a lot more comfortable, especially during the summer.

Pigtures are a must then @eileen!

That's what I do with Betsy.
