I have switched to fleece a few weeks back and think it is so much better to use! I put newspaper then towels, and then the fleece on top. I was wondering if this is the right way to do this or if there are better materials to use as the absorbent layer. Furthermore, if there are ways to sew the whole thing together to make it easier when changing the bedding! If you guys have any tips and advice that would be great :)

When i used fleece I put down a layer of towels and two layers of fleece and changed it all every three days.

Ah that's what I do, every Thursday and Sunday is full cage clean day. I'll stick to that :) I thought perhaps there was a better absorbent layer to use other than towels

I like towels but some people use puppy pads. I think it depends what suits you really.

i mainly use either the asda little angels bed mats (£3 for ten, disposable) or the washable absorbent bed pads which i get from amazon. (these are good because they can be washed on very high). you can also get adult incontinence type pads from places like ebay aswell.

you could try the padded fleece absorbent liners for an all in one, but i personally don't understand them, because they hold the moisture in the middle layers, and surely you want the moisture to be drained right through the bottom and to the furthest point away from the piggies and not just sat under the surface? alot of people use them though but i've always been unsure.

:)

I use fleece with towelling underneath, which I find the easiest. I am looking into the terry towel bed protection stuff as it's more absorbant than a towel and thinner so I can sew it more easily into pads with the fleece, but I have no problems with the towels. They do the job well and lock in the moisture so my fleece on top is always dry.

Thanks guys! Towels are doing okay for me right now, I use old towels, dog towels and an absorbant pet fleece for dog beds under my fleece. I've also tried a mattress protector but they're useless! I may try the washable bed pads, that's a great idea! I just want ones that I can easily just throw in the wash so it's less money to be spent. Although the money saved will only go on new toys for them haha

mine are in 21 square foot so have a ground sheet then newspaper then fleece in main part of cage then towel under litter trays cos that is covered so they tend to pee there.
