I have been browsing all your wonderful houses and think that mine could be better organised. I noticed that a lot of you have vetbed and litter tray - perhaps because they are indoor.

I have this http://www.dobbies.co.uk/acatalog/rabbit-shack-double-hutch-with-excercise-run.html

Should I kit out the top with vet bed, toys etc and have a tray at the bottom with the food and water? I do shut the ladder up at night time so the water and food would need to be moved too. I just thought if I put the food and toilet downstairs they might not want do their business out in the open and the same for eating.

At the moment I have the bed area filled with hay and the top open area filled with straw, hay and newspaper has their food, water and the odd toy, downstair in the open which sit on concrete dosent have anyting apart from toys.

I would be most interested in peoples ideas (I just hope the link to the picture worked).

Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam
Sorry I can't help as I have the same set up as you, mine is set on concrete too.

As I also shut the ladder away at night, I just use the downstairs as a play area, with an extra hay rack

Mine do seem to poo and wee anywhere, even in their cosy bed area rolleyes

mine are in an indoor cage and i line mine with fleece.i attempted to use a litter tray but the boys just use it as a food bowl or a toy!

Right I have managed to take some pic's of the setup I have at the mo, but I think the hutch could be just so much better. I have two photos below one is of the hutch, the next is of the outside run. Any ideas or suggestion mostly for the hutch as the bottom only has toys and I would like to have a corner litter tray but the ladder is there so that scuppers that.

Have a little tray underneath the hay rack - for some reason, many piggies like to have pee when munching their hay! Just fill the tray with hay; they like cosy corners for their toilets.

Some piggies are a lot tidier than others.

Do you mean in the hutch to have a tray? If so that's the problem, where the hay rack is , there is the hole for the ladder to go downstairs into the outside run. So really there isn't a plcae for a litter tray in the living area and with me locking up the ladder at night they wouldn't be able to go downstairs to use the tray but then I don't think they would go outside to use the toilet.

For your run:

Best get a solid top cover. Believe me, it takes only a moment for a cat, a dog, fox or bird of prey to create death and devastation!

You can make more hides by cutting "doors" into upturned cardboard boxes.

That's why I close the ladder at night so they are all snuggle. I guessI could keep the ladder closed all the time as they are in the big hexagonal cage during the day. But them the bottom run won't really get used will it?
