Hi,
I'm looking for advice :). I'm soon to be collecting Giles a rather gorgeous neutered boar from SophieW. I know he has to be seperated for a number of weeks yet but when the time comes what's the best way to introduce him to his harem? Just think three crazy abbys and three short haired lunatics. As all of them never stop eating I'm guessing a large pile of grass would help but does anyone have any ideas?
Thankyou :o

whichever way you do it (and a big plate of grass is not a bad thing), think TESTOSTERONE OVERLOAD!
It can last for a couple of days to a few weeks until all girls have been in season and the busy boy has found the "on" switch for his brain again.
EVENTUALLY, though, he'll find it!

Be prepared for lots of fun and games, and SMELLY urine EVERYWHERE! It looks a lot rougher than it is for guinea pigs and it is a good thing to remember that it's the girls that call the shots - boy can't mate until they are well and ready for it (not for lack of trying).
Don't bath the pigs until they have settled again; otherwise you prolong the procedure and interrupt the creation of a new tribe smell.

You might like to have your new boy next to the girls for a few days, so he can get his bearings first and they can have a sniff at each other.

Otherwise, the only tip I can give you is that once you have committed to it, you have to ride it out!

Wishing you all the best
Wiebke - mummy to some very randy, but also very happy neutered boys in their time.

It's worth it - I wouldn't be without a boy for my girls anymore!

Personally, I'd rather call it lively, and leave it at that; but some nosebuds are to be recommended for the virulent phase. After that, things will pretty much calm down; and you will find that one or two of your girls are falling heavily in love...

All I wanted to say was what a lucky chappy :)) I thought my boys had it good with a wife each but 6... Hope all goes well! The girls are definately in charge in this house :))

I've recently done this. I put them all in a 4 x 4 C & C with nothing in there that anyone could trap anyone else in with lots of veggies, food, hay & readigrass & everything was fine. I was far more worried about how my 3 older girls would get on with the 3 smaller ones NOT how my boy would react.

I have done this in the past too; 1 boar to 5 girls. You can expect, tho' it doesn't always happen it depends on the boar chasing & mounting & a general excitedness from your boy & a whole lot of disgruntled chunterings from the chosen sow :(|) He may get a swift kick to the chops or have urine sprayed into his face, this usually deters any unwanted advances but with so many to choose from he will go his merry way.

Good Luck with it - It's the best thing i've ever done for my boy(s) & it means everyone has a friend :)

Just to add: I have had a sow who would not accept any boar but was fine with any sow & have heard of boars not accepting sows but i'm assuming these are few & far between & most boar/sow(s) bondings go just fine :)

Our guy was introduced to our girls by being housed next to the girls for the 4 weeks after his neuter. After the 4 weeks we popped him in and very happy 4 some :D Luckily no drama and very little humping hehe :D He spent the whole month popcorning and wooing and flirting with the ladies haha

Bless him, i swear you can see them smile! :(|) :(|)

I love my boars ... I have five of them now!

I find the best way to introduce any guinea pig to another is on neutral territory with plenty of distractions! Yeap, a lovely heap of lush grass and dandelions will help.

Giles will be in piggy heaven with 6 girlies. When I introduced Umbrella to Parasol, I did it indoors in a run. I sat and watched them for about two hours ... it was great. Umbrella would rumble and grumble, Parasol would tell him off, squirt wee in his face (infact my youngest daughter's boyfriend nearly got it in his face :))). Umbrella would rumble and walk off, then Parasol would follow him. Then vice versa. A couple of hours later they were together under the log roll.

Umbrella has been rumbling around ever since, mind you. But I am sure that will stop.

Good luck ... I can't wait for the next instalment!

Giles has become rather shy. I think it maybe due to the pop corning girlies but otherwise am not sure why. Counting down the days as she looks so lonely by himself. :)

I bet that you can't wait! Gilbert is probably very taken by all his girls next door!

:))
I've only just learned that boys don't care which part of a girl they get busy with, heads, legs, paws, if it moves they'll try and get jiggy with it! Bet your little mans going crazy bless him!

Even my smooth coated piggies are looking like abbysinians tonight - lots of ruffled hair....

A boar in the grip of testosterone is NOT a pretty sight - and neither are the girls when he is finished with them - thankfully, it'll never get as bad that again! And EVENTUALLY, he'll find the "on" switch for his brain again...
