I understand that washing fleeces, cosies, etc should be using non-bio detergent at 60 degrees or higher.

I use Morrisons own brand non-bio tablets for the piggies and Fairy non-bio liquitabs for me. My skin can be troublesome and Fairy's the only thing I'm guaranteed to get on with. But I chose the Morrisons tablets just randomly for pig loads. Is there any difference with non-bios, as in, are any more effective on piggy loads? Has anyone had any experience using different detergents? Are liquids, powders or tablets better? Or does it not matter?

Is there anything I could be adding to the wash, i.e., I've heard of using vinegar - but excuse my ignorance, I only know of vinegar as a condiment so is there a particular one to use?

Just to add, my block of flats has a communal laundry, with massive Meile washers and a dryer, which are brilliant, but I obv. can't be using anything that might affect the next wash, etc.

I use whatever non bio is cheapest, I keep an eye out for special offers one seems to work as well as any other. You put the vinegar in the conditioner compartment, it helps as a sanitiser and conditioner. Best to use white vinegar, some supermarkets sell it in large plastic containers which works out cheaper. When I've run out I have resulted to ordinary malt, still seems to do the trick.

While I use non-bio washing powder for myself, I usually use bio powder for animals as the enzymes are significantly better at removing urine from fabric. However I use about half the amount of powder (or whatever) than is suggested on the pack guidelines.

That's interesting @acapae, as I'd never've thought of using bio, but I'm guessing it's no problem for your piggies at that lower concentration.

Not sure I'd try, just as Willow's a slightly itchy/sneezy pig (am hoping some Neem shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas will settle her.

I've not washed anything pig-wise yet; I have them on loose substrate and cardboard/ plastic beds so far. The latter should be rectified post-Christmas though heh. But I've tried all sorts over the years for beds of sensitive rodents, including adding white vinegar to the wash or as a pre-wash soak, and nothing comes close in effectiveness. But I mean I have very sensitive skin, and the lower concentration of bio is fine for me. The reason I stick with non-bio for me is more down to the fact that I find colours run less with it (I'm lazy and never separate colours out :P ).

I am fairly new to fleece and I wash it using Fairy powder as we have that anyway. I put vinegar in the softener draw to help with smells. I see people say white vinegar but I use distilled (it's clear) so not sure if I have been doing that right.
I have just ordered some Halo non bio sports wash from Amazon to try as I wondered if that might be more hygienic plus I am starting to notice a slight odour from the fleece. Although no one else seems to!
