We currently have 2 girls in a 2x4 with a 1x2 loft and we're planning on introducing a 3rd girl and making it a 3x4 (may or may not extend the loft as well) but I was wondering what the best set up would be if they don't hit it off right away, I don't really want to do it as a 2x4 and and 1x4 as that's quite thin, would you guys reccomend something like a 2x2 square in the cage? assuming they don't get along i'd want to increase the size as well anyway but i'd have to get some more materials and in the UK that can take a while.

Any photos or suggestions would be great, thanks!

:DWhen I got Swan and wanted her to meet Crow Feather, I put together a small C and C cage and adjoined it to the one that Feather was in. That way they could get to know each other through the bars with no possibility of them coming to blows. They lived like this for a couple of weeks before Swan moved in with Feather. Now they live in Feather's cage and they get on fine. Never had a problem with them.

For a very brief time it'd probably be okay to use an inadequate guinea pig cage size considering how many guinea pigs live their entire lives in cages VERY small and seem to live long lives. I assume you're introducing them through the bar method? Well, within a week or two they should be fine and you'll be able to have a big cage to the three of them. For now 2x2 is fine. You can also try to set up a guinea pig date if you're adopting so that way you can understand some of the chemistry between your pigs and your future one. Quarantine is still a good idea though.
