Hi,
I have a guinea pig which is 5 years old and lost his partner last year. I am concerned as to where is best to keep him in the winter time? He use to be kept in the garage over winter with his partner but can no longer put him back into the garage due to us using it for the car now. He has a teddy bear which he is very fond of which he does sleep with but I am still concerned due to the bitterly cold evenings we are having at the moment. Is it best for me to bring him indoors or will this stress him out to much?
Many thanks

Much better to bring him indoors now for winter, as you say the evenings have been really chilly.

He will also benefit from the Human interaction as he is on his own.

I agree.
He will be much happier and warmer indoors over the Winter.
If it is possible to bring him inside then I would suggest you do it as soon as you have a cage set up for him.
Well done for thinking of it now too - he sounds like a lucky piggy to have such a caring owner.

Best inside particularly as he is on his own now.
Are you thinking about getting him a little rescue friend?
Even if he has your company he'd benefit from one of his own kind too.

I haven’t really looked into getting him a new friend, would you subject getting even at his age? I was mainly concerned that he wouldn’t accept one.

My guinea, Streaky, lost his partner last year too and is also 5 years old, I’ve moved him indoors now due to the cold weather and he also has a cuddly teddy. But yes, definitely bring him inside now as the weather has become much colder!

Please bring your boy indoors if that is an option. He will be much happier!

There are several good rescues that offer boar dating at their rescue with a suitable rescue boar, so your boy would come home with a new friend only if acceptance has happened and if they get on. This way, boars of all ages can be bonded.
No piggy is ever too old for company. One of my piggies is an 8 year old friend's piggy that has come here because she got depressed after the last her companions passed away at the end of last year. She's definitely not been depressed here!
We have got a recommended good standard rescues locator on the top bar, but here is the direct link: Guinea Pig Rescue Centre Locator
