I currently use dust extracted wood shavings but I'm thinking of changing to fleece for the winter and see how it goes. I'm trying to reduce the waste as I clean the cages out every day and burn/compost the saw dust.

I was wondering if there was a certain type of fleece I should be using, can I just buy a fleece blanket from Primark or should I get some that's been made for cage lining?

I have a Midwest cage and yes I bought a couple of blankets from primark but do a test by trying to pull out the fluff from the blanket and if fluff does come from the blanket ,don't get it as it can get stuck in their teeth but if nothing is pulled out its ok. Don't just use a blanket tho, what I do is I put a dog food mat ( the plastic rectangle sheet that is meant to put under a dogs bowl to stop mess ,if u know what I mean) then on op of that I fold a huge towel in half that I also got from primark and basically that just soaks up all the pee, then finally after that I put the blanket on, u may have to se it to shape or just fold it as it might not be the right size but yeah. Also Guinea pigs see in colour so preferably get a bright one as it should make your Guinea pigs seem more happy and excited about it. Xx and here we have the longest answer in the world

Great thank you!

also you have to use a non scented ( or cheap, low scented) washing powder which is also non biological ( non bio) and you don't have to change it out that often as long as you do spot checks with a dust pan and brush also forgot to say don't get a light coloured blanket cause u will be able to see all the wee and it's not pretty

@Piggiemum7 can I also add that the fleece has to be 100% polyester and you will need to wash it at least 3 times before using it for the pigs as the wee doesn't soak through unless it's been washed. If I ever buy a new fleece I always wash 3 times then drip some water onto the blanket once dried and make sure the water is not puddling ontop of the material. Also don't use any fabric conditioner when washing the fleece as it affects the fleece absorbing the water

i buy my fleeces from Primark and wash at least 3 or 4 times before sewing them up. I use Aldi's non bio wash powder - always used Fairy but it took about 8 washes and Aldi does it much better... i change my c&c cage fully twice a week and spot clean each day. They tend to pee and poo in the litter tray but even though it looks clean they still pee elsewhere so i always change it..
