I'm sure there was a thread a while back about getting the fold down puppy canvas style playpens for holiday accomodation but will start a new one.

I go on about 2 self catering UK holidays a year with my parents, my gang of 1 bunny, a pair of guineas and a Chinese hammy go to stay at a small pets hotel and have a great time and lots of good care.

My eldest guinea Monty comes with us as I can't leave the little man behind!

He travels in a smallish travel bag and sleeps a lot on the journey, if we stop for lunch he comes with us.

I take a small cage with me for him, then make a run of sorts all very makeshift with grids or a fenced off area. I really feel the cage is too small - but I can't fit anything else in the car as we have a golf and have to fit me and Monty and parents and luggage in.

Anyway the more I think about it the more I'm thinking one of the fold down pens might just be the best option, can leave the old small cage behind and that makes an indoor cage and if I take the base out a garden run (fully supervised)

It is just for Monty - he is not very energetic, does not move round too much so does not have to be huge, but not sure what size to go for?

These are the type of ones I've seen - anyone know which are the better ones?

Think this type are too small:

Hoping when folded flat they just fit on or behind the seat in the car.

I'm looking to try Monty on fleece - he normally is on megazorb but I'd like to try fleece.

It's just for a week this and he gets loads of lap time and attention, he does not seem to like massive spaces so I'd take his wooden nest box and cosie etc...

So to stick with what he knows or buy one of these giving him a bit more space? What do you all think:)

I've got one like the Amazon one you've listed. Its a good size if its the same one as I've got, the sides are good and high and it does fold flat and has a bag it all fits into. The one I gots a different colour but looks the same otherwise. It also has a place to attach a water bottle.

Another option could be to take come cube grids along - you could have them cable tied together before going and even take a cube roof too. The good thing I like about my cube run is that it bends into the space available more easily. For the base you could take a piece of plastic like a plastic tablecloth or a bit of lino if you had room.

I like the fabric portable play pens because they have sides as you can take the bottom off if you have a yard or something while you are away. It seems a reasonable size and not too expensive.:)

Yes there is a garden where we are and a large terrace/balcony but don't think that would suit a guinea - but the garden would if supervised.

I think I will order one, he's been getting on ok with swapping to fleece - on a weeks trial at the mo.

I think I will get one like this:

Think that is ok size wise for 1 small guinea (average of 750g) Would need a bigger one if I ever take the other 2 guineas with me but for little Monty this looks a good bet.

No idea how big my room will be at the holiday cottage so need space for the playpen as I like Monty to be in my room, where I can keep an eye on him:)

Am liking the idea of not having to take bags of megazorb with me and the fleeces will go on the seats so won't take up much space. There is a washing machine and dryer there.

This looks like a good alternative to the small cage I have to use for holidays as only one I can fit in our car and I always feel guilty downsizing his cage for the week.
