Hello all,

I'm a very skeptical person anyway and with the whole Corvid-19 going on I'm sat thinking and worrying if my pigs like the way their cage is setup. Basically due to certain circumstances and not having a place big enough the current cage is about 4 and a half foot in length and whatever the average width is. I sadly just before Christmas had a couple of 6 year old sows or maybe slightly older pass away and they used the same cage I stated above for all that time and seemed OK. They grew VERY big and I might be able to show a couple of pictures of them. However, I have a feeling my new pigs won't grow as big. The current toys and hideys I have in their cage are as follows:

Two large wooden hideys filled with hay
A play ball with a bell which I hear going most the night!
A tube which they run through
A small bowl which I put their nuggets in and I just put their greens scattered around the cage.

However, as you can imagine it's not the biggest of cages and I would really like a bigger one trust me, but I think I'm scraping the requirements and their fine. I was wondering what the best setup for them is to get the most of their cage. I used to have the two hideys adjacent to each other one end with a tube and bell in the middle and their hay up one end etc.

I have just cleaned them out and organised the hideys and cage alot different, so they can go round the front and back of the hideys and also round the perimeter abit better than before because I noticed on floor time they were bolting around the edges etc but they do that whatever the setup as they find a way. I'm not sure if you recommend changing their arrangements around often or best to stick with one thing and let them get used to it all. Although they seem quite inquisitive with the new setup.

Any advice would be amazing and I hope everyone is well with their families

Thanks

Obviously if you recommend removing any current hideys and buying something new and better for space then please suggest. The hideys I have are fairly large.

My boys were in a variety of small cages for their first 1.5 years and have only just had their dream cage upgrade. I would recommend an extra hide even if it's just a bendy bridge or cardboard box so that if the dominant piggie claims the best one the other pig will still have a choice. always make sure the cage is not so cluttered that can't run the full length of it if they want to or leave a clear circuit for zoomies. you may need 2 water bottles and 2 bowls to stop your pigs from getting possessive and fighting over the one that is available.

I find moving everything around once a week is the only way I can get my boys to explore and it gives them a lot of enrichment not to mention that I love doing it.

This is my current setup which I'm not sure about, what do you think? I have uploaded two pictures in which you can see that they have space at both ends to go in and out and they were recently just running round like a circuit. Before I had both hideys next to each other adjacent

this does look like quite a small cage have you considered getting/ building a C&C cage, you could put a piece of plywood on top of the draws you have there to create a larger platform to keep them on

also bendy bridges are great for enrichment or as an extra hide but my boys prefer something more enclosed to hide in even if it's just a cardboard box

I really struggle to conceptualise sizes based on numbers and I don't have a tape measure with me do you know what that is in feet?

@Sweet Potato it's about 4 feet 1 in length and about 2 feet wide. Is that the minimum requirements?

It looks smaller in the photos to be fair bit that's why I wasn't sure whether to get igloos or one big house for them both

I believe that does meet the bare minimum but bigger is always better there is a size guide in one of the guides for new owners section if you need to check. it's better to give them as many hides as possible so they can be separate if they want to.
