Best Breed For First Piggy

Hiya!

I would recommend to go for a shorthair breed rather than a longhair one that needs regular grooming and haircuts. Piggies are such individualists that there is no definite "beginners breed". If anything, if you are worried about handling or bonding, look for already well bonded adults that are used to being pets and that are no longer skittish or suffer from an excess of hormones.

Are you in the UK? In this case, we strongly recommend to use one of our recommended rescues. By rehoming from them, you have the security of only adopting healthy (quarantined), properly sexed and guaranteed not pregnant sows and boar pairs that have been carefully bonded with character compatibility in mind, so you will have as smooth a start as possible into your piggy life. A good rescue will also not rehome any unsuitable piggies that need an experienced owner to a piggy beginner. You will also not have to do any bonding yourself.

PS: You can add your country, state or (for the UK) county to your details by clicking on your username on the top bar, then going to personal details/location. That makes it a lot easier and quicker for us to always give you the appropriate advice straight away. I have the names of some good US and Australian rescues, too, if you wish.
