right, I’ve kept my pigs on recycled paper cat litter for a long while and it’s been working fine. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t smell but we recently expanded their area and it’s costing a lot of money to keep it up. We pay over £13 which only does just over one clean. We have tried fleece and it just doesn’t work with us with the washing and the smell etc. What can you guys recommend for me to use?

Have you tried hemp, flax or miscanthus chips? I use all 3. You can pick up 20kg for £8-10 from equine shops online or in person. I can post a link to where I get mine if you want?

I have a layer of newspaper and then hay. Works fine for my 2 girls. I’ve tried all the different kinds of bedding including fleece and this is the one that I prefer.

I use a hemp bedding called Aubiose. It’s just under £10 for a 20kg bale at my local equine shop and it lasts me about a month with three pigs in a 7x2 C&C. But I only ever replace soiled bedding, I never chuck the whole lot out - that would cost a fortune! (But would be quicker!)

All pretty similar, except the aubichick which is like a softer, smaller cut Auboise.
All of them are compostable, environmentally sound products & are safer & more absorbent than wood chips/shavings.
Delivery can get expensive, so I order in bulk to save money. Would be a lot cheaper if you could pick on up yourself from a farm/equine shop near you.
After 10 years of hutch/cage cleaning, these are the only things I use now.
