Is benebac given everyday? how much benebac should be given to a 2 month old GP with soft poop?

I have no clue what that is BUT if your piggie has soft poop, they should be not be given any veg for a few days until their poo returns to normal.

Benebac helps the poop return to normal. He’s also on Baytril too.
Oh I see... in that case, i have no idea. I am sure someone will be along soon with more knowledge.

Presuming the vet prescribed it, did they not advise you?

Yes it’s given every day.
Does the packaging not say how much based on the piggy weight?

Do ensure you keep piggy off all fresh food until the poops go back to normal. The benebac should help that process but it’s eating a lot of hay that will help to restore balance to the gut as well.

The other thing to try is poop soup. You use the poop soaked in water from a healthy piggy and syringe the water to the poorly piggy. That contains the necessary bacteria to help stabilise the gut.

Yes, the vet prescribed both along with the Oxbow Vitamin C biscuits. I cut off all veggie intake as of yesterday, he’s on hay, pellets, and the vitamin c biscuit (one a day). I also just got him on the Oxbow Urinary Support biscuits too (Half).

yes, this is what the packaging says, “
  • Newborns (gel):Administer 1/2 g at birth, 1/2 g on days 3, 5, 7, and at weaning. For hand fed orphans increase to 1 g on days 7 and 14 and at the introduction of solid food. Administer 1 g when intestinal upset or appetite loss occurs. Post weaning/older (gel): Administer 1 g per 10 lb of body weight up to 40 lb and 5 g for 50 lb of body weight or over 2 treatments, 3 days apart, are recommended.” My GP is barely 540 grams.

Benebac is brilliant and we have always found it very effective.
We give it an hour before or after the antibiotics (so usually twice a day).
I actually found the easiest way to give it was to mix it in with a bit of recovery formula or fruit puree and syringe it directly into their mouths.
Did the vet not advise on the dosage?
I had the large syringe and just gave 1 gram each time (one twist of the wheel by the plunger if that makes sense), but it's not an exact science.

omg thank you so much for that insightful reply! I was so unsure of how many grams to give my GP. He’s only 1 pound (540 grams). So to be clear, he needs 1 gram (2 gram total) per day?
Unfortunately, the vet did not advise me on anything benebac related. Just told me to use it while my GP is on his antibiotics. I also have another question, is it safe for me to give him Oxbow Urinary Support biscuits as well as Oxbow Vitamin C, while he’a on benebac AND antibiotics?

Hi!

You give any probiotic once or twice daily. Follow instructions on the label. If it is in combination with an antibiotic, give it either one hour before (US recommendation) or two hours after (UK recommendation) the antibiotic. Either way works.
If you can't measure, you give a pinch each time, irrespective of the age. Most of it is filler so you can't overdose.

Is your boy a new piggy, is he on antibiotics and does he have a companion?

If he is new, please consider that he may not be used to veg; take him off fresh veg until the poos have normalised for a day or two and then only gradually introduce fresh herbs and veg in small quantities to allow the gut biome to adapt to them. Keep in mind that hay is the mainstay of the diet (80% of the daily food intake) and that it also contains some vitamin C; the more of it your piggy eats, the better for their gut, teeth and a longer life. Pellets should make only 1 tablespoon per piggy day.
Antibiotics can also cause soft poos when they impact on the bacteria in the gut that are crucial for the digestive process.

If your boy has got a healthy companion, then correctly made 'poo soup' (i.e. live healthy gut microbiome transfer) is much more effective than any probiotic brand because it implants exactly all the right stuff.
