I do believe Ben and Dave's relationship has come to an end. Over the weekend, Ben constantly chased Dave with absolutely no let up, so much so that Dave spent Saturday and Sunday night in the run on the floor. Yesterday saw them both having a bath and going back into their clean cage and all seemed good for a while. Until about 12.30am! Then Ben started off again, chasing poor Dave round and round in circles, teeth chattering, squeeking... Despite being left to try and sort their differences out (and leaving me with no sleep!), Ben was still at it this morning. So, at 5.30 I was crawling around the floor trying to set up a space for Dave.

They've always been volatile and have shared the odd nip or two. I am at a loss as to what to try now (other than chuck them both in the run...an option I could try this week when I get more space back) but it doesn't look good. And now I've got Ben chewing the bars of the cage like there's no tomorrow, searching for Dave. It makes me so sad to see him like that, but I know if I put Dave back in, he'd just start chasing him again...

Anyone got a spare Nero 3 sized cage?rolleyes

aww babe, i'm so sorry! i'm really embarrassed about Rueben's behavior, I'll give him a stern talking to when I can! LOL

Oh dear, such naughty boys! No advice here, only my sympathies and fingers crossed that they'll make up soon. I have boys who act like girls, so much for getting any typical boy behaviour knowledhe from them. rolleyes

Hey, and don't forget (in your loved-up state as you are) that we need pictures of Ben, Dave, Minty and Garry!

Awwwwwww it's hard isn't it :( I suppose you will have to get another cage if they aren't going to get on xxxxx I know I never wanted to split my girls up when Mildred and Peggy took a dislike to each other. Poppy and Peggy live next door to Mildred, Holly and Bright Eyes and most of the time things are settled but every now and then Peggy and Mildred teeth chatter like mad at each other through the divider rolleyes

You have tried your best with those two boys; I wish I could help you more, or even have a cage for you!

Could you keep them side by side so they might be in with a chance at shared playtime later on in their lives? Considering they are not fighting like mad?

That may be an option...however, at the moment they are in my room...Ben is next door to Garry and Minty (Nero 4s with stands) and Dave is underneath in a makeshift run type thing. He seems quite happy though... My mum is due to fly home to Spain tomorrow, but whereas I thought the boys could move back into the spare room, my mum is now flying back in 9 days as she needs to have a lot of dental work done. So, for the forseeable future, the boys are in with me so space is a premium. However, I think Ben and Dave might get along together in the short term if they are put in a run. I will try them in the run downstairs tomorrow night (when my mum has gone and can't complain that they are on the carpet!) and will see what happens. If they can get by with more space then I'll move one of the Nero 4s out and put the run in under Garry and Minty and hope for the best. There's been no serious blood loss yet (they both have a couple of nip marks, but that's nothing new) other than from my thumb when it got in the way the other day and Dave well and truely sunk his teeth in with a crunch!

Ben is 22 months old and Dave is 19 months old.

You have my sympathies :(
I separated Haggis & Tait not long ago, Tait had lived with Haggis since he was a 4wk old baby but at 7 months the hormones hit, the flick knife came out & poor Haggis had a slashed face. I did bath them together & re-introduced but to no avail, Haggis was slashed again whilst Tait remained unmarked.

They are now happily paired with younger boars but today, whilst cleaning them all out i put the pet carrier i use to put them in whilst I'm cleaning hutches directly under Tait's hutch. Magoo & Murray go in the carrier & he was fine but when i put Haggis & Noah in Tait moved in his hutch to directly above the carrier, looked straight out & chattered loudly non-stop. He only stopped chattering & moved when i returned Haggis to his hutch & made no more noise when Huxley or Hamish went into the carrier.

This gave me quite an insight into what complex lil furries they are & that, in some cases, space isn't always the issue but that some piggies, for whatever reason, forge an intense dislike to others & will not be swayed.

Well, they are both camping out tonight, in the run which is now situated in the downstairs toilet/utility! It gives them more room than their normal abode and if it works then it may become a permanant fixture... At the moment they have calmed right down. Any chasing came early on while they were trying to establish dominance. Lots of head humping...to be honest, they were both as bad as each other!
