Hi lovely people,

Sorry to keep asking stuff, still only week 1 of piggies so lots to learn!
My two 'girls' are chasing each other a heck of a lot today, lots of rumbling, trying to mount, face offs etc....is this normal for two sows or is it possible the ones we bought are a mixed pair? They have been happily running around, giving each other space up til today although there have been dominance displays and tussles over greens etc as I would expect. , but this behaviour is lasting a couple of hours? Any advice welcome x:help:

What you are witnessing is normal dominance behaviour as your tow girls are establishing a working hierarchy.

Please read our thread about sow behaviour; it does explain it all. I have also included it into our 'starter kit' for new owners for exactly that reason. ;)

Fantastic reading, thank you so much for your help. I feel reassured, but will obviously keep an eye out for any really aggressive behaviour/injuries. I am loving being a piggy slave! They are fascinating, fun and very watchable.....must get on with some jobs!

You are of course always welcome to re-check the sex with the help of this link here: Sexing Guinea Pigs: How to Sex a Guinea Pig

Sows do all these behaviors too, particularly when one is in season (which occurs about every two weeks or so and sometimes comes with noticeable behavior changes.) Hope this helps!
