My family allows our pigs to have pretty much unlimited free range time since they can get in and our of their cage alone and are pretty much potty trained. And as we're kind of a hippie family... we eat on the livingroom floor with either the rats or pigs running around us (whomever has floor time at the moment)... and since we're veggie heads except for the little bit of meat the wife eats and shares with the ratties... the pigs have learned if were eating something... most likely they'll get a bite if its raw and on the okay for pig list. They have started ambushing us with wheeks and piggie paws on our legs to get a look on our plates everytime we eat... in fact we have to make sure the kid doesnt leave her plate down or they'll dead run it and snag food as soon as she's two feet away.

We've started making them a saucer plate of veg and fruit and even pellets everytime we eat to try to put them off... and well... they still come and beg off our plate... infact I just watched Miley snag a melon slice off my wife's plate not two minutes ago!

We joke about how we have guinea dogs as they sit at our knees and beg!

Does anyone else have little beggie piggies too?

How much veg and fruit is too much?

Thanks!

My piggies beg all the time if i sit in the run with them. The best amount of veg is about 50g (half a cup) of veg a day per pig. But if they are used to veg and are not getting runny bums i cant see how you can hurt by giving a little extra, obviously not loads and loads. Its hard to know. Not much help. Your home sounds wonderful. :)

hehe my piggies were begging tonight, they must have smelt the salad my housemate was eating and came running over looking up at her with the cutest faces and sqeaking like mad, who can resist? :)

I eat on the floor to eat to! Pogle used to do the exact same thing, if I was eating meat I'd have to show him my plate for a sniff or he wouldn't leave me alone lol

Mine beg constantly, especially if someone is eating at floor level with them. I have seen them crawl right up my shirt if I eat a piece of watermelon with a piggie in my lap! They also know the sound of the fridge opening and will wheek while I'm making dinner, or will wait at the bottom of the stairs and beg if I am in the kitchen while they have free play time in the basement.
