Beetroot leaves?

can they eat beetroot leaves? ive never given mine any beetroot, buit my mum just bought some that you cook yourself still bunched with the leaves on and i wasnt sure if they could eat them..so can they?

Yes they are safe for them to eat, if they haven't had it before give them just a little at first to make sure it agrees with them. Mine have them occasionally when I can get to the veggie market

They can definately eat them. Mine have them and are all alive and kicking, have a look at Galens Garden website under the seed shop-tells you there

Well, I would say then go with your instinct, never ever feed your piggies something you are not sure of yourself. Easiest way

I regularly feed mine raw beetroot, peeled and chopped, but never the leaves as I thought they were poisonous.

Mine only get a piece of the beetroot bulb - no leaves!

The only place I have read that they are not safe is this forum, none of the piggy care books I have say they cant have them.

PS I read that on here after I had fed them to Fugly, he only has a few at a time and he loves them, sadly they dont last long, he has not had a problem with them, but all pigs are different would just try a small amount to start with see how particular pig gets on.

just found this in food, I assume beet greens would be beetroot leaves in which case they are good as high in vitamin C

Not sure where the idea they are bad originated from

Didn't like idea of going with instict as that might work with faith & that but not with poisons. lol

They sell them in salads for humans to eat so I can't imagine they're poisonous!
